Most people are now aware of larger corporations in the crosshairs for cyber attacks. This week, Home Depot joined Target, P.F. Chang’s and Sally Beauty when it suffered a massive data breach compromising customer’s credit card information. Even more troubling is the fact that many businesses being targeted for cyber attacks are not multinational corporations. A recent article in USA Today, entitled Perpetual State of Siege for U.S. Companies, addresses how the “constant barrage of attacks” may not make the headlines. While a cyber attack at a smaller business may not make national headlines, it can cause substantial harm to the business unless proper safeguards are in place.
